Rain - The Mystery of Tristan Rêveur

© Ron Villejo

Bad art is more tragically beautiful than good art, because it documents human failure.

Un suicide élégant est l'ultime œuvre d'art [An elegant suicide is the ultimate work of art].

Tristan Reveur is the greatest artist of the 20th century. What is the reason you haven't heard of him? It must be, that he is imaginary. He and his whole body of work was created in cooperation between strangers on the internet. The film erects a monument to his life, while investigating the questions of make-believe and online communities.

Henry is obsessed with a fake artist by the name of Tristan Rêveur, reveur being French for dreamer. So, in reality there is no artist by the name of Tristan Rêveur.

  1. I understand the elegant fantasy
A world tied together through life, and death. Art i.e. Artificial so what gives it life? What is the breath that gives it spirit to live on? There are languages in which breath and spirit are the same word. We used to believe that the wind was many spirits giving life to the world we knew, as in this account our gathered breath gives this man spirit...and Henry;he is in us all. Do you know loss? Do you know pain? Have you felt your heart break, and after did life taste as sweet? Was in bland in your mouth like chewing cotton? It was for me. After loss, after that tender organ in your chest that keeps you alive actually breaks you feel as if you are walking around amongst the living, but you are no longer there. Not noticed, not ignored, not hated or loved, just there. Some empty vessel to fill back up. Fill back up with what? Death? Shit? Negative thoughts about your fellow "human beings"? You can't fill that vessel with anything because there is nothing there. Just loss, and a numbness you wish would go away but it won't. It never will. You were never really there to begin with. Where is your breath? Do you breathe life? I don't. I'm already dead just waiting for the world to catch up with me.
